About Gio Manveli

Gio Manveli is a contemporary artist based in the Netherlands, creating expressive, figurative works that balance raw instinct with deliberate composition.

Working with acrylics, oil pastels and found materials, he builds layered surfaces where control and chaos coexist. His paintings often begin with something ordinary — a gesture, a glance, a quiet moment — then shift into something less clear, more psychological.

There is no fixed narrative. Instead, fragments of real life appear and dissolve: figures, interiors, objects. What remains is tension — between presence and absence, clarity and distortion, intimacy and distance.

His work is rooted in observation, but not in documentation. Rather than explaining a moment, he distorts it, pushes it, sometimes ruins it — until it feels real.

Gio Manveli’s work is collected internationally across Europe and the United States, and has been shown through galleries in London and Dubai. His paintings live in private interiors where they act less as decoration and more as a subtle disruption — something that adds character, raises questions, and resists being fully resolved.

My Journey

Hi, I’m Gio.

I’ve loved painting since I was a teenager. Back then, I was totally obsessed with Van Gogh— I copied dozens of his paintings just to figure out how he did it. Those early works ended up hanging in our family’s Airbnb in Tbilisi… and fun fact: most of them got stolen by tourists. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I’m kind of proud of that.

Then adult life happened. I stopped painting for years. Moved countries, started working, got busy. But when I moved to Amsterdam, something changed. We switched apartments a bunch of times, and every time I saw empty walls, I felt this itch to make them feel like home. That’s when I picked up the brush again.

Now I paint scenes that feel real and lived in—rooms with stories, spaces that aren’t perfect, but warm and human. It started as a way to fill my own walls, and now I’m sharing it with the world. Thanks for being here.
