One painting a month.
That's the whole business. I have a day job and a basement studio, which works out to twelve comissioned canvases a year.
How it works
Three ways to do this
Prices include the frame and shipping inside the EU. Outside the EU, ask — it's usually fine.
Observation
€350One small painting of one thing. Your pet, a person, a chair, the corner of a room you keep looking at.
Portrait
€2,400A full painting built around a person, a family, pets, a place or a story you bring me. The one most people mean when they email.
Statement
€4,500The big one. Two concept directions instead of one, a call before I start, and a short film of the work being made.
Paying for it
Nothing is charged until I've read the brief and said yes. The booking fee pays for the sketch and holds the slot — it comes off the total.
If you don't like the sketch and want out, you're out. You keep the sketch, I keep the booking fee, and nobody has spent six weeks being polite about it.
| When | Portrait | Statement |
|---|---|---|
| Booking + sketch | €300 | €500 |
| Sketch approved | €1,050 | €2,000 |
| Before it ships | €1,050 | €2,000 |
Observation is paid in full up front.
What I won't do
Copies of someone else's painting. Including mine, exactly.
Photorealistic pet portraits. My dogs look like my dogs. If you want yours to look like a photograph, I'm the wrong guy and I'll tell you fast.
"The same as that one, but in blue."
Under four weeks. I paint at night, after the other job. Rush jobs come out looking rushed.
Repainting a finished canvas. That's what the sketch stage is for.
Questions people actually ask
Can I see it before I pay the rest?
You get a photo of the finished painting before anything is packed. If something's genuinely wrong, we talk. If you've just changed your mind about the whole idea, that's what the sketch stage was for.
What if it doesn't fit my wall?
Send me the wall photo with something in it for scale — a chair, a door, a person. I'll tell you the size before you commit to one.
Do you work from photos?
Always. You don't have to sit for anything. Bad photos are fine — I'm not copying them.
How long is the wait?
Depends what's already booked. Ask and I'll tell you the real date, not the hopeful one.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes, and plan on three months, not three weeks. See above re: night job.
Before you write
Five things, and I can answer properly:
1. A photo of the wall or room, with something in it for scale.
2. Rough size you have in mind — or just the wall measurements.
3. Three paintings of mine you like, and one word each on why.
4. What the painting is about. One paragraph is plenty.
5. When you need it, and which package you're looking at.
I answer everything within three days, including the no's.
